The construction of a micrometer consists of a rigid C-shaped frame with a calibrated screw attached to its interior. The screw has finely etched threads that mesh with the thimble, allowing for precise rotational movement. The thimble is marked with graduations, and each line corresponds to a specific measurement increment, typically 0.01 mm or even smaller. Additionally, a sleeve surrounds the screw, featuring a scale with larger markings that correspond to the complete rotations of the thimble. To use the micrometer, the object being measured is placed between the anvil and the spindle, which are the flat and parallel measuring surfaces located at the ends of the micrometer.
