Things to Keep in Mind before Buying Oxygen Concentrator Online
Last Updated on October 16, 2024
Oxygen concentrators are medical equipment for helping patients with respiratory conditions, like asthma, sleep apnoea, and COPD. If you often need one, it makes sense to invest in high-quality equipment that is durable and can serve its exact purpose. You can buy an oxygen concentrator online at great prices, but before you proceed, here are some things you must consider:
Flow requirement
This is one of the most critical factors when determining which oxygen concentrator is right for you. The equipment must only be used per doctor’s orders, and they will prescribe the flow requirement, which is indicated in LPM (Litres Per Minute), and the value will depend on the condition of the patient and the amount of oxygen therapy needed. A doctor may specifically suggest that you buy an oxygen concentrator with a 5LPM or 10LPM capacity. 5LPM is typically prescribed, so it is widely available online.
Usage
Consider what you need it for, as it can help you decide whether to get a portable model or one you can use at home. Portable oxygen concentrators are often three to four times more expensive than residential units, so it’s important to make an informed choice. If you need regular oxygen therapy, then you may need to buy an oxygen concentrator. However, if you travel frequently, have an active lifestyle, or you need to bring the equipment from one patient to another, then a portable unit may be necessary. Keep in mind that portable ones have lower LPM capacity. You also need to consider how long you will need it!
Quality
Make sure that the oxygen concentrator is capable of maintaining high oxygen concentration levels, regardless of the flow capacity you need. Some machines may fall to 30 percent at high flow rates, such as 8 or 10 LPM. This may be fine in cases like COPD, but unsuitable for COVID-19 patients where the oxygen concentration must stay at 93+/-3%.
